The infamous summer heat in America’s Southwest didn’t stop Brent Mullett and his family from taking a June 2020 summer vacation to the Grand Canyon, Sedona, and beyond. The Mullett family reached out to Grueninger Travel for help booking parts of their trip including activities and tours, where we assisted them in completing a customized vacation for the whole family.
The trip started with flights into Phoenix, AZ and a rental car to explore Sedona, the Grand Canyon, and Flagstaff. They then drove to Las Vegas, NV to spend two nights on the strip before flying back to Indiana to complete their 9 day vacation.
“Deborah Sorg gave us some great ideas to check out. She sent us links to follow up on to help us determine what we wanted to do. Slide Rock State Park was a gem. She also recommended that we do the ATV rental and set that all up for us.
Renting ATVs in Sedona, Arizona via Grueninger Travel was a highlight of our trip. We had a great guided tour up in the mountains with Sedona ATV Rental
We went to Slide Rock State Park near Sedona, AZ – hiked up and down Oak Creek which is surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We had a great time jumping off a cliff into deep cold water. It was over 100 degrees, but the water was still freezing.
I cannot recommend enough Slide Rock State Park. Easy to find and provides a full day of cooling off fun in a very unique setting.
We spent a couple of days at Grand Canyon National Park. I woke up at 4:30 am to go watch the sunrise. AWESOME!!! I was the first one there.
My son ran along the south rim for his morning cross country workout. We took the Desert View Drive in the morning. We drove up St Rd 64 to the east as far as we could go, then came back west and stopped at all the viewpoints that we could. AWESOME!! We packed our lunch and stopped at one of the overlooks to eat it.
Plan ahead for meals. This caught me off guard and I spent more than I had anticipated. There are not a lot of economical meal options near the Grand Canyon entrance. Definitely pack lunch if you are planning to spend the day at the park so you don’t have to take the time to leave.
Don’t let the heat stop you from going in the summer. I am a wimp when it comes to heat but I was fine. We planned most of our time out in the mornings between 7am and 1pm. But we also hiked along the Grand Canyon on one afternoon and the heat did not bother me.
Driving from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon and then to Las Vegas provided us with so much scenery. It was awesome! Before this I never realized how beautiful Arizona is.”
